Job Summary
The Staff Nurse Anesthetist/CRNA I provide professional, competent anesthesia care to healthy pediatric patients to and including geriatric population, requiring surgical, obstetrical, and other anesthesia services. Major Job Functions Demonstrates knowledge of pre-anesthetic assessment skills. Administers intravenous and inhalation anesthetic agents appropriate for the age and condition of the patient served, excluding neonates and complex and complicated patients. Implements patient monitoring standards for general or regional anesthesia. Maintains clinical and professional competency according to department policies, procedures and protocols as appropriate for the age of patient(s) served. Performs anesthesia-related interdisciplinary responsibilities. Complies with and supports organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates the willingness, ability, and flexibility to provide anesthesia in the various anesthetizing locations.Accepts additional departmental duties as directed by the Assistant Chief CRNA and/or Chief CRNA/Manager.
Qualifications
The following qualifications are the minimum necessary to adequately perform this job. However, any equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to any legal and/or regulatory requirements. Education and formal training: Graduate from both an accredited School of Nursing and an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia. Must be a licensed Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina as well as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or eligible for certification. Must have 40 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain CRNA certification. Must possess and maintain ACLS and CPR certification. Work experience: Previous experience is not necessary. Four to six week orientation period (working with preceptor) is required. Orientation period will depend on previous experience and clinical skills. Knowledge, skills and abilities required: Must have extensive knowledge of current anesthetic agents, techniques, drugs and equipment. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify the anesthetic care suitable to patient age. Must have considerable ability to make independent decisions, sometimes under stress, and to maintain a professional demeanor with patients, coworkers and physicians.
