The Nurse Anesthesia Program is currently ranked #7 in its 70th year of operation with a maximal accreditation status and pride in first-attempt certification rate of 95-100%. The Associate Director will be responsible for program administration, outcomes management, and teaching in the anesthesia curriculum as well as providing clinical instruction two days per week at the Medical Center. Specific competencies and objectives of the position follow:
Provide! s administrative, educational and leadership skills to assure the students, conducting institution, and accreditation bodies that program requirements will be met in an event that a vacancy occurs in the Director position. Participates in hospital and university committee activities related to areas of responsibility. Serves as a member of the Admissions and Progress Committees, which are responsible for student selection, evaluation, and dismissal. Counsels students as needed.
Assures quality of the educational program by participating in operations and evaluation. Conducts evaluation of instructors, curriculum, and program policies to ensure maximum student education and compliance with accreditation standards and guidelines. Coordinates the non-credit didactic curriculum; provides classroom instruction and assessment. Assists adjunct instructors in preparation of classroom material, encouraging and supporting innovative educational strategies. Serves as an advis! or for student projects, including service learning, capstone requireme! nts and publication work.
Coordinates special projects, including workshops for students, faculty, and outside customers. Provides administrative planning and management of faculty development, new student orientation, educational conferences, and other seminars. Provides support for alumni association functions. Acts as program ambassador and representative at public relations functions.
Performs administrative activities to ensure efficient and effective operations. Assists with annual operating and capital equipment budgets. Provides direction for day to day operational functions, equipment and supply purchases, and other activities. Participates in facilities planning and expansion.
Participates in clinical and classroom teaching, as assigned by Program Director. Provides clinical instruction one to two days per week. Develops simulation experiences and uses simulation in teaching.
Promotes the advancement of the nurse anesthesia prog! ram. Assists in the implementation of a doctoral degree program. Achieves and maintains accreditation with national and international bodies. Initiates and manages grant-funded projects.
Maintains national ranking of program through professional leadership activities. Lectures at local, state, national, or international meetings. Publishes in journals/textbooks. Serves on local, state, national or international professional committees or offices.
Provides patient care specific for all age groups. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient care factors. Integrates age-specific knowledge in assessing patient care. Communicates information, education, and patient needs sensitive to age and development level of individual patient/family. Maintains competency related to age-specific patient care.
