Background Investigation required. DUTIES:
We are seeking
experienced, committed academic faculty with training and expertise in critical
care, cardiac anesthesia, regional anesthesia, pain management, research, and
other anesthesia experiences relevant to the care of the veteran patient. Full-time and part-time work schedules are available.

Position responsibilities include the following:
·
Operating room anesthesia care, including supervision of residents and
CRNAs.

·
Out of operating room (remote site)! anesthesia care, including locations
such as the Gastroenterology Endoscopy Clinic, Cardiology Electrophysiology
Laboratory, and Invasive Radiology Suite.

·
Anesthetic care for electroconvulsive therapy, cardioversion, and other
non-operating room procedures.
  • Attending physician coverage in the
surgical intensive care unit for adult patients undergoing vascular, cardiac,
general, thoracic, neurosurgical, and other major operations.
  • Chronic pain management, including
interventional techniques.
  • Perioperative physician
responsibilities, including preoperative risk assessment, patient preparation
for surgery, and management of postoperative pain.
  • Clinical or basic laboratory research
  • Education and mentoring of medical
students, residents, fellows, student nurse anesthetists, and other health care
professionals
  • Night call re! sponsibilities
Staff members may
focus in some or all of! the areas listed above.All staff members hold academic
appointments at our affiliate, Duke University Medical Center.Investigative
interests of our group include clinical physiology (cardiovascular, pulmonary),
technology assessment (hemodynamic monitoring, transesophageal
echocardiography), perioperative outcomes (role of anesthetic management in
cognitive impairment), and patient safety (high fidelity simulation
training).All of our faculty have academic interests in medical education and
clinical or basic research.Academic titles and compensation will be
commensurate with experience and credentials in education, clinical service,
and research.Candidates must be board certified or board eligible, and eligible
for an unrestricted North Carolina license.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
In
order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:

Basic Requirements :
  • US Citizenship -! Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified candidates.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE)
  • Degree of doctor of medicine
or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine
or osteopathic medicine.
  • Must hold a current, full and
unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State,
Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of
Columbia.

Reference:
VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part
II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human
Resources Office.

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed! . Approved schools are:

(1) Schools of medicine holding regula! r institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.

(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.

(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
