Job Summary
Provides professional care in the Adult and Pediatric Electrophysiology Laboratories in accordance with hospital policies and procedures under the supervision of the Technical Operations Manager and/or Nurse Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Performs and/or assists with treatments, therapies, and procedures (including scrub assistant, monitoring and circulating), and administers medication under the direction of the physician.
  • Documents a current clinical picture and records designated information in the patient record and conveys relevant information to physicians and staff.
  • Calculates, interprets and analyzes data.
  • Sets up and monitors EP recording computer monitor system, label printouts, display electrode combinations, measure cycle and interval lengths, reports cha! nges noted to MD.
  • Assists physicians with mapping, st! imulating, and catheter insertions.
  • Programs pacemakers and defibrillators before implant. Measures signal conductivity of electrode leads with the Pacemaker System Analyzer (PSA) during procedures and ensures active operation of device after implantation. Reprograms devices for procedures as needed.
  • Deactivates defibrillators in surgery at request of anesthesiologist according to anesthesiology guidelines and supervision.
  • Assists in the in-servicing of new Electrophysiology staff in electrophysiology topics.
Physical Requirements
Intermittent to rapid pace with high pressure situations, requiring periods of prolonged concentration and critical thinking. Work requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift and support the weight of 50 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English is essential. Intact ! sense of sight, hearing, smell, touch, manual dexterity, and good eye hand coordination. Standing and walking while wearing 10-20 lbs lead radiation protection aprons. Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions. Potential exposure to radiation, secretions and blood. Confined work area.

Education, Experience and Certifications
High School Diploma or GED required and satisfactory completion of an accredited program of Cardiovascular or Cardiopulmonary technology, nursing or related field required. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist credential and/or Cardiovascular Interventional Certification required. Current BLS, ACLS and CCI required.
