Patients benefit from the combined expertise of multiple specialists utilizing a team approach to patient health care. Each year, nearly 22,000 patients are treated in the VHC . The VHC provides compassionate care, state of the art specialty health care, expert clinical instruction for 4th year veterinary students from the College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM ), and ongoing investigation of innovative techniques and procedures to further advance the field of veterinary medicine.
Essential Job Duties
The Anesthesia Technician performs the exact same duties as a Nurse Anesthetist in the human health field. This includes being primarily responsible for the complete anesthesia process of all patients coming to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for any procedures requiring anesthesia (this includes large, small and exotic animals). The Anesthesia Technicians report directly to the faculty anest! hesiologists just as nursing anesthetists. In the Veterinary T! eaching Hospital the Anesthesia Technicians also play a large role in the training of senior veterinary students in the DVM program along with post doc interns and residents.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Minimum Experience/Education
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.
Departmental Required Skills
- Previous veterinary technician experience.
- Knowledge of administering anesthesia.
- Experience working with small animals.
- Ability to work with large animals.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
- 3+ years experience in a teaching hospital.
- Registered in NC to administer anesthesia or! currently eligible to take the NC state boards.
