The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences is one of three departments at the College of Veterinary Medicine ( CVM )and consists of 31 faculty who have a diversity of research and teach ing interests and includes faculty in the clinical disciplines of Anesthesia, Radiology, Clinical Nutrition and Clinical Pharmacology. More than 20,000 patients are diagnosed and treated annually by CVM clinicians and the Veterinary Health Complex at NC State University is a major referral center for veterinarians from throughout the Southeast. The patient case load also allows for instruction and the opportunity for clinical trials that advance animal health and well-being.
The Veterinary Health Complex is composed of the 110,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Randall B. Terry, Jr. Companion animal Veterinary Medical Center, the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center and the Veterinary Health and Wellness Center and Satellite and Field Veterinary Services. Additionally, state-of-the-art research facilities are located in the CVM Research building (100,000 square feet) which opened in 2005 and in the Main CVM Administrative building. The Comparative Biomedical Scie nces graduate program in CVM consists of several different âtracksâ, allowing students to focus their research in the areas of cell biology, infectious diseases, pharmacology, pathology and population medicine. Other graduate programs with which department faculty are affiliated at NCSU include programs in immunology, physiology, functional genomics, microbiology, toxicology and genetics.

Essential Job Duties
The Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State University is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Anesthesiologist position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.
Successful candidates will hold a DVM (or equivalent) and have completed residency training in anesthesiology by position start date. Board certification and relevant PhD degree preferred.
The position includes commitments to research, clinical service, didactic teaching and professional service. It is expected that the successful candidate will have an active and independent research program, will become a leader in their research field, bring in extramural funding, and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Clinical service responsibilities include: providing excellent patient care to small animal, large animal and exotic species; delivering capable anesthesia section management, including collegiality and professionalism; training DVM students, anesthesia residents and other house officers; and participating in after-hours case management. Clinical effort will be 26 weeks of service annually. Didactic teaching responsibilities include participation in the following aspects of the pre-cli nical CVM curriculum: didactic lectures, live animal laboratories, and elective and selective programs. Service responsibilities might include: specialty college participation, CVM or hospital committees, continuing education lectures, etc.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Clinical supervision of Anesthesia Service in the Terry Center, Health and Wellness Center and the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center.
Supervision of the emergency caseload in both the Terry Center and the Equine and Farm Animal Veterinary Center.
Faculty level service to the Department of Molecular Biomedical Sciences, the College of Veterinary Medicine and NC State University.
Minimum Education/Experience
Applicants must hold a DVM (or equivalent) degree and have completed residency training in anesthesiology by position start date. Board certification and relevant PhD degree preferred.
Departmental Required Skills
Successful candid ates will be expected to develop extramurally funded research programs, which will include the ability to succesfully write and submit proposals for grant funding.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere.
Documented record of creative scholarship or potential to develop an independent educational research program in anesthesia.
Demonstrated aptitude for or experience in teaching, preferably anesthesia instruction, required.
Ability to lift up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Prefer candidates with ACVAA Diplomat Status and relevant PhD.
Required License or Certification
Licensed to practice veterinary medicine; eligible to obtain NC Veterinary Medical License or Faculty Certificate.
